Resting Metabolic Rate Testing
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing provides a precise measurement of how many calories your body burns at rest, offering valuable insight into your unique metabolic needs. Unlike generic calculators or estimations, RMR testing gives you real, individualized data—taking the guesswork out of setting accurate calorie goals. With this information, you can tailor your nutrition and exercise plans to align with your metabolism, making your efforts more effective and sustainable.
RMR testing also helps identify metabolic adaptations that may influence weight loss or gain, and allows for ongoing monitoring to support long-term health optimization. Every RMR test is conducted under direct physician supervision, ensuring both accuracy and expert, personalized interpretation.
For the most comprehensive and actionable insight into your health and performance, combining RMR testing with InBody composition analysis and VO2 max testing offers a complete picture of your body’s composition, metabolism, and cardiovascular capacity.
What is Resting Metabolic Rate testing?
RMR testing measures the number of calories your body burns at rest to maintain vital functions such as breathing, circulation, and cell production. This test provides valuable insight into your metabolism, helping to guide personalized nutrition, weight management, and overall health strategies.
What to Expect During the Test:
Preparation: Prior to testing, you'll complete a brief health questionnaire. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and arriving rested and fasted (details below).
Testing Procedure: You will sit comfortably in a relaxed position while wearing a small mask that measures your oxygen consumption. This process assesses your energy expenditure by analyzing your breath in a calm, resting state.
Duration: The test typically takes about 20–30 minutes to ensure accurate measurement.
Post-Test Review: Dr. Watson will interpret the results and explain your resting calorie needs, helping you understand how your metabolism affects your weight and health goals. A copy of your results will be provided for you to keep.
